Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the stages of calcification of various teeth and cervical vertebral bone age among female adolescent individuals. Methods: The study subjects consist of 130 females with age ranging from 6 to 14 years. All panoramic radiographs and cephalometric radiographs were obtained. The stages of calcification of various teeth and cervical vertebral bone age were analyzed. The Spearman rank correlation and multivariate regression analysis were used to analyze the relationship among teeth age, cervical vertebral bone age and chronological age. Results: The Spearman rank correlation coefficient revealed highly significant relationships between cervical vertebral bone age and chronological age(r=0.766). Furthermore, the coefficients of correlation between cervical vertebral bone age and dental calcification stages are higher than that between chronological age and dental calcification stages. Conclusion: Cervical vertebral bone age might be a better indicator in judging female dental calcification stages.
