Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of CT in persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous(PHPV). Methods: The CT findings of 5 cases with PHPV were analyzed retrospectively. Results: CT scan showed all 5 cases(5 eyes) having microphthalmic, high density signal of vitreous body, and a girdle-shaped or cone soft-tissue band which located from the posterior lens to the papilla optica, and also showed 4 cases(4 eyes) having lens crystalline deform, lens outline not smooth, lens antedisplacement, shallow anterior chamber, high density of lens. But there is no high-density calcification focus in the soft tissue in all 5 cases(5 eyes). Conclusion: The microphthalmus, a girdle-shaped or cone soft-tissue band which located from the posterior lens to the papilla optica, without high-density calcification focus in the soft tissues are the CT manifestation of PHPV. CT can display objective basis for clinical diagnosis and offer valuable reference in diagnosing and differential diagnosing of PHPV.
