Abstract

Objective: To improve diagnostic accuracy of hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia(FNH) by studying MRI multiphase scanning. Methods: A retrospective analysis was made on the unenhanced and dynamic enhanced MR images of 15 patients(totally 16 lesions) with surgical and pathological proved FNH. Results: MR images of 16 lesions always showed appearance with slightly low or isointense on T1-weighted images and isointense or slightly hyperintense on T2-weighted images. All lesions had apparent enhancement in the arterial phase and prolonged enhancement in the portal venous phase and delayed phase. Central scar was found in 5 FNH lesions on unenhanced images and in 11 FNH lesions on dynamic contrast- enhanced images, and demonstrated late enhancement. Conclusion: The unenhanced and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI scanning can fully show the pathologic and the blood supplying characteristics of FNH and improve differentiating ability from other malignant hypervascular tumors.
