Clinical comparison of treatment of lumbar disc herniation with medical ozone and PLD

Abstract

To evaluate the clinical value in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation with medical ozone and PLD. Methods: Seventy-seven patients with lumbar disc herniation were divided into two groups: PLD group and ozone group. Forty-two cases with lumbar disc herniation received PLD procedure and the other 35 cases had injection of medical ozone into the disc and paravertebral space. Results: The overall efficacy of PLD group and ozone group were 76.19% and 86.71% respectively, but there was no statistically significant difference. The complication of the two groups were 28.57% and 0% respectively and had significant difference, the complication of psoas spasm had statistically significant difference, but psosa hematoma, nerve injury, discitis and lumbar small joint disorder had no significant difference. Conclusion: Medical ozone and PLD are minimal-invasive treatment methods are effective and safe to treat lumbar disc herniation, but there are different principles of treatment and indication between medical ozone and PLD, and the curative effect of lumbar disc herniation is improved by selecting the proper cases.
