Abstract
Objective: To study the etiologic factors, the value of CT diagnosis and differential diagnosis of exophthalmos. Method: The CT appearances and clinical features of 82 cases who had exophalmos confirmed by operation, pathology and follow-up of treatment were analyzed retrospectively. Result: This study included Graves disease 23 cases (hyperthyroidism 17 cases, normothyroidism 6 cases), inflammatory pseudotumor 20 cases, angioma 16 cases, metastatic tumor 3 cases, retinal glioblastoma 4 cases, cranial neurogliocytoma 5 cases, lymphangioma 3 cases, nasosinusitis 3 cases, carotid cavernous fistula 5 cases. Their CT appearances were exophalmos, tumor behind the eyeball and within the eyeball, thickening muscular apparatus. Conclusion: The CT scanning has important value for etiological diagnosis and displaying the circumsciption of pathological changes of exophalmos.
