Efficacy of the HIFU for advanced malignant tumor

Abstract

Objective: To observe the efficacy and clinical benefits of the high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU) in the advanced solid malignant tumors. Methods: Eighty-seven patients with advanced solid malignant tumor were treated with HIFU. Results: Clinical symptoms such as pain were significantly alleviated. The pain relief rate was 86.2%(75/87 cases). Two of the patients got partial response. Echo of tumor was enhanced with ultrasound, necrosis was found in the tumors with CT, the quality of life such as eating, sleeping and mental status was all markedly improved. The side effects were lumbago and slight skin burn. No serious complications were seen. Conclusion: Therapy of HIFU is an effective and safe treatment of the advanced solid cancer. It can relieve pain quickly and safely.
