Abstract

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect and the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in renal implantation tumor after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE). Methods: VX2 tumor was inoculated directly into the exposed kidney by tumor blocks embedding in twenty-two New Zealand white rabbits. When the diameter of tumors reached 1~2 cm, the rabbits bearing tumor were randomly divided into two groups, control group(group A n=10) and experimental group(group B n=12). For group A, normal saline was administered via hepatic artery. For group B, lipiodol(0.2 mL/kg) and ADM(2 mg/kg) were administered for each rabbit. Seven days after embolism, the rabbits were sacrificed and the tumors were taken out. All specimens were fixed by 10% neutral formalin, embedded with paraffin completely and consecutive sections were made with a 5 μm-thickness. Then immunohistochemistry was performed to demonstrate the expression of PCNA. Results: PCNA was expressed in 22 animals in two groups(the postive rate=100%). The PI (71.6±11.01)% of residual tumor cells of group B was higher than that of group A (61.2±11.21)%(P<0.05). Conclusions: TACE is a minor trauma and effective treatment for rabbits VX2 renal tumor, the proliferation of residual tumor cells is increased effectually in experimental group.
