Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of CT for synchronous colorectal carcinoma(SCRC). Methods: The clinico-pathologic and imaging results in 17 patients with SCRC were reviewed retrospectively. Results: Among the 17 patients with SCRC who underwent CT examination, 15 patients diagnosed as SCRC, 2 cases of SCRC happened in transverse colon and rectum were missed as transverse colon cancer and rectal cancer separately. Among the 16 cases who underwent colonoscopy examination, in 12 cases the colonoscopy arrived to the ileocecal region, and 11 cases were accurately diagnosed, 1 case was diagnosed as moderate dysplasia by preoperative pathology, in 4 cases there was incomplete colonoscopy due to intestinal stenosis caused by distal lesion so missed the proximal lesion. Conclusions: CT is an essential modality for diagnosing SCRC. Familiar with the imaging features of SCRC, strict training of doctor’s technique and awareness for the presence of SCRC can improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis.
